Texas Rangers (1972 and 1981-85)
In 1972 owner Bob Short's Washington Senators became the Texas Rangers. Twig made the move as part of Ted Williams' coaching staff. (He's at right with good friend Nellie Fox.)
After a disappointing season, Ted retired again and Twig went back to managing in the minors.
In 1981, Don Zimmer became the Rangers' new manager and Twig became his third-base coach. Zimmer was "the best manager I worked for,"
a positive person who gave the sense that he had things under control and that everything was going to work out, Twig says. But everything didn't,
and after a disastrous start of the 1982 season, Zimmer was fired.
From then through 1985, Twig also coached for managers Darrell Johnson, Doug Rader and Bobby Valentine
