Sports Illustrated, Steve Rushin's column
Columnist Steve Rushin commented on the experience and wisdom of older managers under the headline "The Latest Wrinkle" October 20.
Beginning by commenting on Jack McKeon's success with the Marlins, he went on to mention Felipe Alou, now 68, who was hired a year ago by the San Francisco Giants, and
Frank Robinson, the same age, who replaced Alou in Montreal. About Twig, Rushin said:
"Last season, at 78, Twig managed the Fort Worth Cats of the independent Central League to a division title. It was his 55th season in baseball--his career
is now eligible for an AARP card--which explains how, as a Washington Senator, he once singled in a game-winning run off...Satchel Paige."
