Minnesota Twins (1986-1994)
First-base coach for the Twins for nine years, Twig was part of the team's two World Series championships
(1987 and 1991).
Twig worked briefly for manager Ray Miller, and then for Tom Kelly. Other coaches included Dick Such and Rick Stelmaczek,
both of whom played for the Senators when Twig coached there.
Brought in especially to work with young infielders such as Steve Lombardozzi and Greg Gagne, and later Chuck Knoblauch, Twig
also was close to many of the other players. He lockered next to Kirby Puckett for nine years, went fishing on occasion with Puckett and Knoblauch,
and formed a lasting friendship with Dan Gladden.
USA Today named him the top first-base coach in the American League in 1991, and he was a member of the American League All-Star coaching staff in 1988 and 1992.
Twig participated in the 2007 reunion of the '87 World Series champs.
In the photo at right, he rode with Tony Oliva during an on-field reenactment of the memorable ticker-tape parade.
